Cryometrics: A boil-off gas monitoring system for LNG carriers has been developed by the French gas containment systems specialist GTT and newly formed subsidiary Cryometrics. Boil-off gas (BOG) represents one-third of total costs for an LNG charterer, so monitoring it is a key issue for LNG operators. LNG Advisor will track the BOG consumption of the engines, the BOG burnt in the gas combustion unit, the natural and the forced BOG as well as key parameters influencing overall consumption such as the tank vapour pressure and ship motion. The system can also monitor consumption of conventional fuels. According to its creators, the system will automatically detect and document deviations in vessel performance, while allowing crew to annotate reasons for over consumption. Since data can be shared online, onshore teams are better able to track the performance of their carriers and react to problems sooner ratherthan later.
