Brazil, Russia, India and China - the BRIC countries - are eager to boost their energy supplies to fuel continuing economic growth. For their economies to flourish, they will have to balance the financial fluctuations of the global energy market while embracing technological innovation. Finding this path has just gotten a lot harder because in the past three months the price of oil has tumbled. At the time of writing, Brent Crude prices had fallen below $53/barrel for the first time in more than five and a half years, and were teetering very close to the psychological $50/ barrel threshold. This was from more than $115/barrel last June.
