Professionalism, Education and Allergy

摘要

There is general concern about the medical profession and how doctors have changed from carers into providers, and patients have become customers, leading to the deprofessionalisation of medicine. In this article I explore-the origins and meanings of 'profession' and 'professionalism', and discuss some of the threats to medical professionalism and the potential role that medical education may play in reestablishing the professional status of medicine.e-mail sk@sun.ac.za
