EU protection for traditional agri-food names improved farmers' livelihoods, a new study has found. On 21 December, the European Commission published an external evaluation of the EU's Geographical Indications (GIs) system, which concluded that the schemes brought a wide range of benefits, including better incomes and fairer competition for farmers and food producers.
