In this issue of Annals, Duong et al report an evaluation of the effect of antibiotic treatment after incision and drainage of skin abscesses in children, according to a double-blind, randomized controlled trial. Pediatric patients with abscesses were randomized to receive either 10 days of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole or placebo, and the primary outcome was treatment failure after 10 days of therapy. Secondary outcomes included the presences of lesions 10 days or 90 days after initial treatment.
