The impact of legislation on waste disposal has created an urgent interest in finding new ways of dealing with a wide variety of substances. Farmers are being offered an intensive composting system which works without forced aeration, agitation or turning. We report on TEG Environmental. Many farmers are already engaged in farmyard composting, drawing their income from gate fees and the sale of product. However, competition is increasing, and the system is only suitable for green and vegetable wastes. This month (June 2004) Lancashire-based TEG Environmental, which has developed a compact enclosed system, plans to raise up to 5 million pound. The new money will accelerate the marketing of its self-contained processing plants to farmers, food processors and local authorities.
