The balance of demand and supply in the Russian scrap market is shifting towards the shortage. Scrap consumption will grow in the forecast period to 30.6?30.7 million tpy following rising steel production. Scrap collection is estimated to increase by a mere 1.5% in 2018?2019, which will result in continuing competition for scrap volumes. Average annual scrap prices in Russia will be about RUB 16,200/t this year (FCA without VAT) supported by an expected rise in domestic EAF steel production as well as the increase in global scrap prices.
