Rio Tinto’s 2020 Shipments of Pilbara Iron Ore Stand Solid at 330 Mt

Rio Tinto has recently reported its iron ore production and sales performance in the Pilbara operations (Western Australia) for the year 2020. On a 100% basis, its annual production volume stood solid at 333.40 million tonnes (Mt), up 2% year-on-year (y/y) and the annual shipments at 330.60 Mt, up 1% y/y. Consequently, the total volume of ore and strip rose by 7% y/y. According to the Company, Pilbara iron ore achieved “a strong performance across the network in 2020, despite impacts from Cyclone Damien in the first quarter and COVID-19 disruptions which also resulted in the deferral of maintenance to the second half.”
