While the trend toward decarbonization is accelerated on a global scale, not only the resource majors but alsomajor trade firms in Japan are working toward reducing and consolidating the coal business. The company which spearheaded reduction and consolidation of the coal business among major trade firms is Mitsubishi Corporation.Mitsubishi has already withdrawn practically from the thermal coal business which has no possibilities due to theworld-scale enhancement of the regulation of the greenhouse effect gas emission, and consolidated the coal business tothe export business for metallurgical coal in the State of QLD, Australia. Mitsubishi sold multiple thermal coal assets in theState of NSW and the State of QLD, Australia owned by the Company one after the other during 2016 to 2019.
