Anglo American Restarts Operation of Moranbah North Coal Mine

On June 3, Anglo American plc, UK restarted operation of Moranbah North coal mine in the State of QLD, Australia. Moranbah North coal mine is an underground metallurgical coal mine adopting a longwall mining method located in the Bowen Basin in the State of QLD, and the flagship type of coal produced is hard coking coal. The interest in the said coal mine is 88% owned by Anglo American and a total of 12% by 5 Japanese firms including Nippon Steel Corporation, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and so on. Since the evolution of the gas with more than the standard value was confirmed in the mining tunnel in the night of 20 February 2021, the operation was suspended so as to secure the safety of workers. Hence, the operation of the said coal mine was recommenced for the first time in three and a half months.
