Indonesia exported 26.4 million mt of thermal coal in April, down 1% month on month and up 15% year on year, according to the latest customs data June 22. Despite the jump on a year-on-year basis, Indonesian coal production continued to be disrupted by rainfall, which would likely explain the fall on a month-on-month basis, according to S&P Global Platts Analytics. The year-on-year rise could then partially be explained by rising coal export prices, with exporters utilizing stockpiles and taking advantage of higher prices.
