Uganda delays lake Albert oil project signing after death of Tanzania president

Kampala, Uganda—Uganda has postponed the signing of the final investment decision for Total’s long-delayed $20 billion Lake Albert oil development until April following the death of Tanzanian President John Magufuli. Uganda, Tanzania and Total, the lead developer of the Tilenga oil development and export pipeline, were scheduled to sign a final shareholding, tariff and transportation agreement March 22, but the event has been delayed two weeks to allow for mourning the 61-year- old Magufuli, who died March 17, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni said on local TV.
