COMEX copper futures drop 7 cents as dollar rallies on European vaccine news

COMEX copper futures slid nearly 7 cents March 16 following a selloff of nearly 8 cents in early London trading amid a sharp strengthening in the US dollar on concerns about the European COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Copper for May delivery, the active month, closed at 407.15 cents/ lb, down 6.9 cents, after falling from the 414 cents/lb level in early London trading to the 406 cents/lb level. Copper for March delivery closed at 407.90 cents/lb, down 6.75 cents. Three-months copper on the London Metal Exchange closed at $9,025/mt, down $119.50, after falling sharply in the first ring to the $8,956.50/mt level and rallying somewhat in the late morning to break above $9,020/mt.
