US high-vol HCC catching up with low-vol on China, regional demand

London—Atlantic coking coal markets on Jan. 14 saw a pickup in US high-volatile HCC spot pricing, as discounts to low-vol HCC narrowed on signs of stronger demand. The Platts US East Coast low-volatile HCC benchmark assessment increased $1 to $158/mt FOB, based on 58% CSR and 19.25% volatile matter, 8.25% ash and 0.95% sulfur. The Platts US high-vol A index rose $5 to $152/mt FOB USEC, based on 32.25% volatile matter, 1.05% reflectance (MMR), 220% dilatation, 7.5% ash, 0.95% sulfur, 30,000 ddpm and CSR typically in the low-60s. The Platts US high-vol B benchmark increased $4 to $130/mt FOB USEC, based on 36% VM unblended product with 0.95% MMR, 160% dilatation, 8% ash, 1% sulfur, and 25,000 ddpm fluidity.
