Pittsburgh—US scrap exports fell 18.9% in December, led by Turkish imports of US material falling 55.6% from the previous month. The US exported 1,204,665 mt of scrap in the last month of 2020, its third lowest monthly export volume of the year. Turkey imported 152,134 mt of scrap from the US in December, its lowest monthly total since 145,727 mt were shipped in June 2018. The low monthly total dropped Turkey down to third on the list of US scrap export destinations in December, and the following month's data is expected to show continued low volumes with few export deals heard in January as well. "I can only remember hearing a handful of US deals to Turkey in recent weeks," said one source.
