CIS pig iron merchants keep offers stable and wait for market to bite

London—CIS basic pig iron exporters stuck to their offers in the hope that persistently strong steel prices would eventually convince pig iron buyers to raise their bids, sources said April 23. The asking prices from some CIS suppliers were largely unchanged week on week. One exporter confirmed he was still quoting $600/mt FOB Black Sea for the US market despite no traction from buyers at this level. Instead, he sold a few small cargoes, up to 6,000 mt each, to Asia, Turkey and Europe at prices equivalent to $580/mt FOB.
