Singapore—India’s finished steel exports rose 27.5% year on year over April-December 2020, the sole area which recorded a yearly improvement for the first nine months of the country’s financial year which began in April 2020, latest provisional data from the Joint Plant Committee showed. Finished steel imports, on the other hand, tumbled 41.7% on the year, along with declines in crude steel, hot metal and pig iron production. China was the leading destination for India's exports at 2.05 million mt, marking a 32.8 fold year-on-year increase, while Vietnam followed at 1.92 million mt, a year-on-year rise of 0.8%.
