London—Surging oil prices could filter through the gas market and send EU carbon prices up to a fresh high of Eur50/mt ($59.44/mt) within months, Swedish bank SEB said in a report March 9. The research highlights the links between major energy commodities and carbon in what has already been a bullish start to 2021 for the EU Emissions Trading System. “The oil price rally is sending rippling waves through global energy markets, but they do take some time to ripple out,” said SEB chief commodities analyst Bjarne Schieldrop.
