US steel mill lead times move lower, plate holds

US steel mills’ delivery lead times for three of the four main flat product categories retracted slightly week on week, while lead times for plate were flat, S&P Global Platts data showed on March 3. US mills’ average hot-rolled coil lead time decreased slightly by 0.1 week to 8.8 weeks amid ongoing supply tightness, strong demand and low inventory levels. HRC prices reached new all-time highs as firm market conditions enabled mills to pull prices higher.
