Turkish mills' Jan-May scrap imports exceed 10 million mt

Turkish mill imports of ferrous scrap in the first five months of 2021 rose significantly year on year, in line with the increase in Turkish mills' crude steel output in the period, according to the most recent data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). Turkish mills' crude steel output totaled 16.3 million mt in January-May, 21.2% higher year on year. The Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD) is expecting Turkey's crude steel production to reach around 39 million mt this year, notably higher than 35.8 million mt produced in 2020.
