Texas Regulators Move to Curb Flaring

Texas oil and natural gas regulators are demanding more from operators that want to flare gas in the state. On Tuesday, the Texas Railroad Commission (RRC), which governs oil and gas operations in Texas, sent 10 requests for waivers to flaring regulations back for a later hearing. Oil producer Ovintiv made seven of the requests, while SN Operating asked for two and privately owned Parallel Petroleum was responsible for one. Newly installed RRC Chairman Jim Wright made the move, noting that an operator behind two of the requests wanted to flare more than $1 million worth of natural gas based on the expense of building a pipeline.
