Methane Fee Gathers Steam in Reconciliation Talks

Democratic Senate leadership included a methane fee measure that is hotly contested by oil interests among a list of legislative priorities slated for a $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill, which is queued up now that the Senate passed its $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure legislation. The bipartisan bill was approved on a 69-30 vote, with 19 Republican senators voting for the package along with all 50 Democrats. The law includes a fresh injection of funding for carbon capture development and a build-out of hydrogen and electric vehicle (EV) fueling stations (OD Aug.2’21).
