US Rig Count Continues to Rise

The number of oil rigs drilling in the US continued its steady rise this week, with Texas and Oklahoma leading the way, according to data from oil-field services provider Baker Hughes. A total of 359 rigs targeting oil were tallied, up three from last week. Gasdirected rigs slipped by one to 98. The rig count has been on a steady incline, rising in each of the last five weeks as drillers get back to work amid higher commodity prices and a strengthening US economy. May was also the 10th straight month of overall gains.
