Queensland’s Swanbank E gas-fired plant written off, coal plants remain in the money

Queensland’s state-controlled utility CleanCo expects to receive net losses from operating its 385 MW Swanbank E gas-fired power station until the plant retires in 2036 as lower gas prices are not compensating for the fall in power prices, according to a financial audit report released by Queensland’s government. The report also noted write downs for coal-fired power plants, however it noted that these plants are expected to remain in the money over the next 26 years.
