摘要

China on Friday set out interim targets to curb greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy consumption by 2025, but at the same time explicitly stated that it will support the expansion of fossil fuel production in a bid to reduce its dependency on energy imports. The 2025 targets announced on Friday is a move by Beijing to put the country on a trajectory for peaking emissions before 2030, however ambitions will likely need to be scaled up from 2025 to achieve this. All eyes are now on the more detailed five-year energy plan which is expected later this year and which may set caps, for example on total energy consumption.
