While wait times for vessels transiting the Panama Canal’s Neopanamax locks have eased following maintenance there last month, congestion through the locks persists. Canal wait times and vessel queues ballooned in early July because of maintenance on the east lane of the canal’s Gatun Locks, which lasted from 4-17 July. The total vessel backlog at the canal at the start of yesterday was 69 vessels, down from the peak of 130 on 16 July, according to the Panama Canal Authority.
