Australia-listed steel producer BlueScope Steel will bring forward expansion plans in Australia and North America to capitalise on frmer steel production margins, after reporting a record proft of A$1.19bn ($878mn) for the 2020-21 fscal year to 30 June. BlueScope will move forward on a plan to add a further 500,000t/yr capacity at its North American hot-rolled products business North Star through debottlenecking as it ramps up its 850,000 t/yr expansion from early 2022 to mid-2023. This could take the plant, which currently has a capacity of 2.1mn t/yr, to 3.5mn t/yr by mid-2023.
