Indian power sector imports less coal

Indian power sector coal burn was frmer on the year in January amid strong power demand, but high stockpiles still reduced utilities’ imports from the seaborne market. The power sector’s overall coal receipts, including domes- tic and imported supplies, fell by 2.31mn t from a year earlier to 55.23mn t, falling for a second consecutive month, Central Electricity Authority (CEA) data show. Imports were also lower against the previous year, falling by 1.73mn t to 3.87mn t, the lowest level since August.
