India moves to raise coal stocks at utilities

India is intensifying eforts to ensure availability of thermal coal at utilities with low stock levels, as part of eforts to boost overall power generation and meet higher demand. The latest move involves regulating supplies to power plants with stock that could last more than 10 days and divert- ing the freed-up coal to power plants with critical and super- critical coal stocks, the country’s ministry said.
