Japan’s aluminium imports were weak in March

Japan’s imports of primary aluminium ingots continued to fall from year-earlier levels in March, but the January-March total was 4pc higher on the back of recovering manufacturing demand. Imports of aluminium ingots dropped by 3pc against a year earlier to 110,200t in March, according to preliminary data released by the finance ministry. The imports were valued at ￥26bn, up by 14pc from a year earlier, or at ￥231,692/t ($2,128/t).
