Coal India aims to boost domestic output

Indian state-controlled coal producer Coal India (CIL) has approved expansion plans and identified new projects with an aim to steadily raise domestic output and curtail imports. CIL is targeting an incremental peak rated capacity of 193mn t/yr by expanding 24 existing mining projects and developing eight new ones, a senior company official said, without giving a timeline to achieve the additional output. CIL, which meets more than 80pc of India's coal needs, may log an additional output of 81mn t/yr by March 2024 from these total 32 projects, while increasing them progressively to peak capacity in subsequent years.
