Naturgy Acquires US Solar Firm

Spanish gas and power utility Naturgy said it has acquired Hamel Renewables, a US company with a solar power and energy storage project portfolio totaling almost 13 GW. The deal follows news that French oil major Total has signed a joint venture deal to develop 1.6 GW of solar power and battery storage projects across five US states, including Texas (IOD Jan.14’21). Naturgy plans to invest up to $1.8 billion by 2025 to bring 1.6 GW of solar power capacity into operation.
