Russia's climate adviser is calling for more ambitious targets from Moscow as some Russian companies announce carbon-neutral plans while others are actually delaying state decarbonization efforts. Ruslan Edelgeriyev, adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin says Russia and its oil companies have generally proved slower than their Western counterparts in adopting plans to curb emissions and address climate change. A low-carbon strategy road map to 2050 and a law regulating carbon emissions are yet to be approved. Most energy companies are opposing state initiatives, including the creation of an emissions trading system.
