The tyre failures that pitched Lance Stroll and then leader Max Verstappen out of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix remained contentious ahead of the French GP, as Pirelli's carefully worded investigation report blamed not structural failures but the teams for the pressures at which they ran their tyres. Pirelli sets a minimum starting pressure to guarantee structural integrity, and it made clear that neither Aston Martin nor Red Bull had operated illegally in Baku - but that both had run tyres at lower levels than had been calculated once racing commenced.
