Optimism counters impact of Covid resurgence

Positive expectations of the global economy recovering from the ravages of Covid-19 helped generate higher prices in the energy complex. US benchmark WTI took the lead, rising in response to economic data showing the US economy growing by 6.4pc in the frst quarter, gaining $3.58/bl over the week to close at $65.01/bl on 29 April. Atlantic basin marker North Sea Dated rose to $68.07/bl, $3.02/bl higher than a week earlier. Mideast Gulf benchmark Dubai rose by $2.34/bl to $65.50/bl.
