Products exports surge

India's devastating Covid-19 outbreak has led to a sharp rise in products exports this month, as slumping domestic demand outpaces cuts to refinery run rates. Products exports from Indian ports hit nearly 1.7mn b/d on 1-16 May, data from oil analytics firm Vortexa show (see graph). This is up by almost 60pc from April and higher than the average for any month since at least January 2016. Diesel exports have increased by 300,000 b/d and gasoline by 180,000 b/d.
