Wacker projects swing to profit in 2020, lower sales due to COVID-19

Wacker Chemie has provided a financial update based on preliminary and unaudited figures, and says that its net income was €200.0 million ($240.5 million) in 2020 compared with net losses of €630 million in 2019, despite a 5% drop in sales, to €4.69 billion, caused by the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on volumes and prices. Wacker notes that the 2019 loss was mainly the result of an impairment charge of €760 million that the company recognized on the carrying amount of its polysilicon production facilities in 2019.
