Sumitomo awards Toyo contract to build ethylene pilot plant fed by waste-derived ethanol in Japan

Toyo Engineering Corp. (Chiba, Japan) has been awarded a contract by Sumitomo Chemical to construct an ethylene pilot plant in Chiba that will use waste-derived ethanol as feedstock. The plant is scheduled to start operations in 2022. Sumitomo formed a partnership last year with Sekisui Chemical to manufacture polyolefns using waste as raw material. Toyo says pilot production of ethylene will start next year using the waste-derived ethanol produced by Sekisui, with Toyo having so far worked with Sumitomo on the basic design of the plant.
