Brine flows force early closure at part of Mosaic’s Esterhazy site

Mosaic will immediately close the K1 and K2 potash mine shafts at Esterhazy, Saskatchewan due to a recent acceleration of brine infows. Mosaic has been carrying out ongoing expansion to transition production to its K3 shafts at Esterhazy and was planning to cease underground mining at K1 and K2 by mid-2022. The company also announced that it will resume production at its Colonsay, Saskatchewan potash mine, which was closed in December, to ofset a portion of the production lost by the early closure of the Esterhazy K1 and K2 mine shafts.
