Evonik Industries says it has completed a previously announced capacity expansion of its sodium methylate production facility at Mobile, Alabama, to 90,000 metric tons/year. The company’s decision to invest in the expansion was driven by growing use of biodiesel and the decarbonization path defned by the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) policies, Evonik says. The expansion is also expected to strengthen the company’s position in the local performance chemicals and life science markets, it says.
