Solid start to 2021 for UK industry

Chemical and pharmaceutical companies in the UK have reported a positive start to 2021, according to the latest survey of members of the Chemical Industries Association (CIA; London). Comparing the frst quarter of 2021 with quarter four of last year, more than 80% of companies report that total sales volumes increased or stayed the same. Domestic sales were largely fat, but exports to non-EU countries saw an increase that ofset “what looks like a temporary fall in exports to the EU as companies grapple with the new trading arrangements and run down pre-Brexit stockpiles,” CIA says.
