The residue levels of propoxur (PHC) at a 4-day withdrawal period in cattle tissues, after liquid spraying of a 0.25% PHC solution, were measured using a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry technique. The mean recoveries from muscle, fat, liver, kidney, and intestine tissues were in the range of 99.6-115.5%. The limits of detection and quantitation in all tissues were 0.0004 and 0.002 (ig/g, respectively. Three young Holstein-Friesian cattle were sprayed with a 0.25% PHC solution [3 L/cattle] at once at its maximum dose and period. PHC levels at 4 days after administration were determined to be <=0.015 mug/g in muscles, <=0.009 mug/g in fats, and <=0.013 mug/g in intestines, while, no PHC was detected in liver and kidney. The detected amounts of PHC were well below the Japanese provisional maximum residue limits. These results indicate that our analytical method can be applied to determine the withdrawal period of PHC.
