FIRST RECORD OF CHINESE RUBYTHROAT CALLIOPE TSCHEBAIEWI FROM HIMACHAL PRADESH, INDIA1

Until recently the White-tailed Rubythroat Calliope pectoralis was recognised as having four subspecies C. p.pectoralis, C. p. bailloni, C. p. confusa, and C. p. tschebaiewi (Ali and Ripley 1987; Grimmett et al. 2011; Rasmussen submoustachial stripe,large red throat patch, and black breast band were seen clearly. The prominent white submoustachial stripe and larger red throat patch ruled out Himalayan Rubythroat. Siberian Rubythroat Calliope calliope has similar facial pattern, but this rubythroat was overall darker, with much greyer upperparts (Siberian Rubythroat is more brown), black breast band (Siberian Rubythroat shows only a thin black line around the red throat patch), and white in the tail. Thus, it was identified as Chinese Rubythroat. Itwas seen again on September 29,2017, near the same place (Fig. 1), feeding along a stream.
