The level of lipids and enzymes concerned with their breakdown were determined in germinating sesame seeds for 8 days. Alkaline lipase and isocitrate lyase activities were at peak level when lipid mobilization was highest. Effect of exogenously applied plant growth regulators and insulin on the level of lipids and enzymes associated with their breakdown were also investigated for the same period. Gibberellic acid, kinetin and insulin stimulated the germination and enhanced the lipid mobilization withproportionate increase in alkaline lipase and isocitrate lyase activities. Abscisic acid acted antagonistic to gibberellic acid, kinetin and insulin.
