Krakatau Steel's new hot strip mill still waits for commissioning

Indonesia's Krakatau Steel's new hot strip mill at the plant in Krakatau Industrial Estate Cilegon (KIEC), Cilegon, has not come on stream yet, Metal Expert learnt from the company's representative. The pre-commissioning activities at the line began in September 2019, while manufacturing of the first coil was scheduled for March 2020. One of the reasons for the delay is a departure of foreign engineers due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, according to the source, up to date, some specialists involved into the project have returned to Indonesia, making it possible to continue preparations for commissioning.
