Studies of a field experiment conducted during Kharif 1999-2000 to study the weed management practices in pigeonpea on medium clay loam soils revealed that all the weed management practices recorded higher seed yield as compared to unweeded check. Weed free check recorded significantly higher seed yield than all other treatments. Pre-emergence application of pendimenthalin @ 1.0 kg ai ha~(-1) with cultural practices recorded significantly higher seed yield than the treatments involving post-emergence application of glyphosate @ 4 lit ha~(-1) in combination with cultural practices and the cultural practices alone. Weed competition lowered the seed yield by 64 par cent due to reduction in number of pods per plant and seed yield per plant. The highestweed control efficiency of 85 per cent was obtained in pre-emergence application of pendimenthalin @ 1 ai ha~(-1) + HW at 45 DAS and IC at 90 DAS.
