A New Species of the Genus Pseudophanias Raffray, 1890 from Thailand (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae)

A new species of the genus Pseudophanias, P. thailandicus sp. nov. is described from Thailand. The new species is first named species of Pseudophanias from Thailand.The genus Pseudophanias Raffray, 1890 belonging to the tribe Tmesiphorini was established for the type species P. malaianus Raffray from Malaysia (Raffray, 1890a, b). In Tmesiphorini, the genus Chandleriella Hlavac which is closely allied to Pseudophanias was established for Lasinus termitophilus Bryant, 1915 (Hlavac, 2000). These two genera had tentatively been separated by the tarsal claw morphology: Pseudophanias have strongly reduced posterior tarsal claws whereas Chandleriella have well-developed ones. However, the transitional states in both claw morphology were found after examining the type specimens and many undescribed Pseudophanias-or Chandleriella-Xiks specimens. Therefore, Chandleriella was placed as a junior synonym of Pseudophanias (Inoue et al., 2020). Currently, the genus Pseudophanias contains 16 described species from Asia.
