Introduction: Recently proposed targeted MRI concept demonstrated opportunities for high-quality, specialized MRI studies of the breast at 3T1. The concept is based on spatial redistribution and passive focusing of the radiofrequency (RF) magnetic field of the body birdcage coil (BC) using the resonators to maximize its efficiency for relatively small areas. Here, we present a metamaterial inspired volumetric resonator for targeted breast MRI at 1.5T. The structure consists of periodic inductively coupled split-loop resonators (SLRs)2. It boosts locally transmit efficiency and receive sensitivity of a BC for the breast area.
