BIZ: Investment/Manufacture: Meritor pushes forward with construction of electric axle plant in Roseira

Brazil/USA - Meritor do Brasil Sistemas Automotivos Ltda owned by Meritor Inc of Troy, Michigan, USA has signed an agreement to purchase 160,000 sq m of land in Roseira, Vale do Paraiba (160km from the capital city of Sao Paulo) where it plans to construct a new factory to build electric axles and associated components. The new unit, the built area of which is to extend to some 30,000 sq m, will be dedicated to the production of components for a new family of electric axles. These are to be supplied to the e-Consortium, a new production system from Volkswagen Caminhoes e Onibus Ltda (VWCO) a Traton Group subsidiary - at the Resende plant (RJ) for the manufacture of the brand's electric trucks. Construction of the new Meritor factory is part of the investment of BRA200m (USD37m) announced in January this year; the new factory was scheduled for completion in April 2021.
