Belgium and the Netherlands will host a trial of an autonomous lorry convoy and Israel has installed an electric road providing charge for buses. Crucial strides towards enabling fully autonomous convoys of connected lorries to be deployed in future are being taken by a major European platooning project, which is set to culminate with an on road demonstration later this year. Platooning has the potential to deliver significant fuel and efficiency savings for hauliers as well as reducing carbon emissions and improving road safety. Until now, collaboration between truck manufacturers around the concept has been limited.
